Ever since the brutal murder of African-American George Floyd has been bought to news, celebrities across the globe have been campaigning for change. One of them is our much-loved Desi Girl, Priyanka Chopra. But since the actress has taken to her social media handle to lend her support to protests over George Floyd’s killing, she has brutally been trolled.
There is a certain section of the society that has been calling out Priyanka Chopra for keeping mum on color and gender bias in Bollywood. On the other hand, a certain section has bashed Priyanka for playing the minority and brown card in the US but promoting fairness creams back home (India).
But now, fans of Piggy Chops have come out in her support and hit back at those trolling her. A certain fan of Priyanka Chopra has shared a throwback video of the Mary Kom actress where she in conversation with veteran journalist, Barkha Dutt. The video clearly shows PC opening up about the kind of fun that was poked at her by her own ‘Punjabi’ family for being dusky.
Priyanka Chopra can be heard saying, “I felt really bad about it. That’s why I stopped doing it. Ummm because I am dusky and just for fun; all my cousins are ‘gora chitta’, I was the one who turned out dusky, because my dad’s dusky. And just for fun, my Punjabi family would call me ‘Kaali Kaali’. Kaali aa gayi!”
The dusky beauty was further heard saying, “At 13, I wanted to put fairness creams and I wanted my complexion to change. But then I got into films and I didn’t understand it. I mean I did do it (endorse a fairness brand). I did it for about a year. And then I felt like, “I look pretty alright. I shouldn’t do it? I didn’t wanna do it!” And I was also finding my ground. I was like 21-22 at that time.”
Priyanka Chopra fan captioned the throwback interview as, “Social media has turned into such a negative and hateful place. It’s a toxic environment I really don’t want to be around anymore. People are dragging Priyanka for almost 20 years old Fairness Cream TVC when she has already addressed this issues,talked in-depth , apologized and took full responsibility for it ??? What is the point of continuing to bash her ????? This is HARASSMENT.”
Priyanka Chopra lastly can be heard saying in this old interview that she had been offered a lot of money to endorse a fairness brand but she eventually choose not to do it. Well, more power to you girl!
We hope that naysayers of the actress now find no reason to troll Priyanka Chopra for her posts in support of #blacklivesmatter or George Floyd’s murder.
